Wide-Band Blazed Grating for All Polarizations

A resonant-type blazing grating surface, which is capable to reflect oblique incident waves with any kind of polarization back to the incident path, has been reported recently [1]. The performance of the design is comparable to 3D blazed structures, but, just as many 3D structures, it is limited by the bandwidth. In this paper, a method is presented to achieve wide-band all-polarization blazing on a low-profile surface. The idea is borrowed from filter concepts that uses multiple coupled resonators to expend the bandwidth without hurting the blazing performance. As an example, the two-pole responses are demonstrated in the unit-cell simulation realized by two coupled square patches. A finite grating sample is simulated and measured in X band to show the blazing performance.
