Low-Power mm-Wave Sensors in CMOS and SiGe Technology

Modern semiconductor technologies allow the integration of powerful multi-channel mm-wave radar transceivers. However, the power consumption of typically several hundred milliwatts is still quite high, making battery-powered operation difficult. This presentation will look into the low-power design of a 60GHz multi-channel mm-wave transceiver, and compare its realization in SiGe and CMOS technology. The realized transceiver can be mounted on an interposer using flip-chip packaging. Measured results of the transceiver and a sensor prototype with the antenna array integrated on the interposer will be presented.
