Recent Development in Ferroelectric Functional Materials

Ferroelectrics have been under investigation for a long time now. In recent years milestones has been passed, which allow an integration of ferroelectrics into tunable devices and components. Barium-Strontium-Titanate (BST) thick films have proven to be operated with enough high power handling capability, making them feasible to be integrated into amplifier circuits up to 100W at 2GHz. Alongside with this development a class of 1kW varactors has been developed for 13MHz ISM bands. Also, in thin-film technology new material stacks allow for the realization of high quality varactors. This workshop contribution will cover the whole supply chain of BST-based tunable components. The differences in technology and resulting performance will be discussed in detail.
