Design of GaN Based K/Ka-Band MMIC Power Amplifiers

Mobile communication systems have rapidly evolved through a series of standards (Generations), targeting now the 5G driven with a prediction of up to 1000 times data requirements by 2020. In this context, the critical bottleneck for the development of 5G infrastructures, is once more time represented by the power section in transmitter systems, both for ground or space landscape. In this contribution, the design approaches adopted for the development of MMIC power amplifiers, based on GaN EU technology, for both space (K-band) or terrestrial (Ka-Band) applications will be presented.
